Key West Instagram Spots: Places to Visit in Key West
If you’re looking for a guide to the most Instagrammable Key West photo spots and all the best things to do in Key West, then you’ve come to the right place!
Key West is about 3.5 hours from Miami, but that drive is anything but boring. You can look for alligators at Everglades National Park, go snorkeling at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, or pop into Key Largo just to say you’ve been.
For an interesting experience, stop at Robbie’s in Islamorada to feed the tarpoon, aka some GIANT fish with the biggest mouths you’ve ever seen. Just beware the pelicans!
And no trip to Key West would be complete without mentioning the famous Seven Mile Bridge, a floating bridge that runs for as long as its name suggests. Make sure whoever is in the passenger seat has their camera ready to get some video footage of the Overseas Highway.
Southernmost Point buoy
Did you know that Key West is the southernmost city in the continental United States? I didn’t! Although to be fair, I’ve never really thought about it before. Head to the the Southernmost Buoy at the southernmost point on the island to capture this super popular and iconic photo op. Try to time this right because lines can get pretty long because apparently everyone and their mom wants a selfie at the Southernmost Point in the US. You can find the Southernmost Point Buoy at the corner of South Street and Whitehead Street.
The colorful coral pink and seafoam green Southernmost House is another cute photo spot nearby. It’s undoubtedly the most beautiful and iconic historic Victorian mansion on the island.
Key West LightHouse
Climbing 88 steps to the top of the lighthouse offers excellent views of the entire island. If the weather it clear, you can see far out to sea, not quite all the way to Cuba, but pretty darn close! Switch your phone to panorama mode and see how much of the Gulf you can capture.
If you’d like, you can take a museum tour to learn more about the 65 foot lighthouse and its keepers, going all the way back to it’s construction in the 1820’s.
Ernest Hemingway’s house is also just right across the street.
Mile Marker 0
You’re probably wondering why some dingy old sign is so popular, right? So was I! As it turns out, this sign marks the end (or the beginning) of US 1, and the other sign is located 2369 miles away in Fort, Maine. Because of that, it’s the most famous mile marker in the country, so make sure to snag a selfie to prove you made it to the end of the road!
Believe it or not, this is also one of the most replaced mile markers in the US, as it gets stolen quite a bit! I know it would make a cool souvenir, but I don’t recommend taking home because the fines are pretty steep. A picture should be more than satisfactory, so head to the corner of Fleming and Whitehead Streets for the Mile Marker Zero Sign.
Marilyn Monroe at Tropic Cinema
The Tropic Cinema is a retro-style cinema with four theaters for mainstream and indie films, plus cultural events & lectures. You’ll find it on 416 Eaton Street in Old Town, Key West along with a statue of Marilyn Monroe in her famous pose.
Rainbow Crosswalks
Bahama Village is the happening part of Key West, filled with life, culture, food, and shops. It’s also the location of fun rainbow crosswalks like this. Head down to Duval Street for this epic photo op and a little taste of Mardi Gras down in the Keys
Key West Greetings Mural
This colorful “Greetings from Key West” mural is a two-for-one because it’s on the other side of one of the best coffee joints in town, Cuban Coffee Queen. So instead of saying “cheese,” grab a sandwich and say “coffee!” There is more than one Cuban Coffee Queen in town, so make sure you go to the one located at 284 Margaret Street.
Sunset at Mallory Square
Watching the sunset is a Key West MUST; it’s like an initiation to the area. Everyone knows there’s no better place to catch golden hour than Mallory Square. The only thing that might top it is setting sail at sunset and enjoying nature’s light show aboard one of the many sunset charters.
But if you do choose to stay land-locked, there is always so much going on at Mallory Square. There is music, art, street performers, and the tastiest, freshest guacamole I’ve ever had.
Blue Heaven
Everyone goes on and on about Blue Heaven for brunch, so much so that you can expect over an hour wait most days. If you don’t feel like waiting, I highly recommend Moondog Cafe for brunch. I got the Elvis French toast, and it was the stuff of legends. Banana bread filled with peanut butter and covered in bacon? YES PLEASE!
But Blue Heaven does make a pretty mean key lime pie, and did you even go to Key West if you don’t have key lime pie at least once? You can also expect tons of the islands famous chickens poking around while you eat, looking for scraps. And don’t forget to take a picture of the iconic blue door!
